Echoes of Transformation: London Through Time

Echoes of Transformation: London Through Time is part of the City Curator’s programme, which aims to amplify the voice of young people within the Open House Festival 2024. The project brings together 20 young people who will work and learn as festival curators, deciding on themes and areas of London they are interested in and want to celebrate.

Welcome to "Echoes of Transformation: London Through Time," where you'll embark on a journey exploring the evolution of London’s architecture, from its historic brick and stone buildings to the towering glass and steel skyscrapers of today. The city’s ever-changing skyline reflects the shifting ideas, technologies, and values that have shaped it over the centuries.

To begin, we will introduce you to Temple Bar London, a stunning example of this theme, through a historical presentation. Afterwards, you'll have the chance to explore this landmark during our guided tour. Following the tour, you'll be invited to view a selection of our works inspired by this theme, which we hope will spark your creativity during the workshop.

During the workshop, you’ll be actively involved in designing your vision of London’s transformation. You'll get to build city models and create collages, allowing your imagination to shape your city. We're excited to have you join us on this historical journey and hands-on creative experience.

Every building tells a story about the goals and inventions that influenced its design. We get inspired to think about our identities and how they are connected with the story of the city by the constantly changing relationship between the past and present.

Let us honour the legacy of those who came before while embracing the potential of the future as we construct and transform the city together.
